Protests Against Internet Censorship Continues By Anonymous India

Protests Against Internet Censorship Continues By Anonymous India
A online hacking group Anonymous India on Wednesday targeted the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) website for blocking file-sharing websites.
The corporate website of MTNL, which caters to the major Indian cities of New Delhi and Mumbai, was down for at least six hours.
A post on hacking group Anonymous India’s blog said the company was attacked because it had blocked several file sharing websites.

The mtnl.net.in attack was announced on Anonymous's blog: "We are against internet censorship. Instead of blocking few URLs, the ISP blocked the whole domain of various file-sharing websites. The (Madras) HC, DoT didn't issue any list of websites to be blocked, still ISP supported internet censorship."

MTNL Delhi, Deputy - GM (Internet), Deepak Sharma said it was not hacking but 'denial of service attack' under which the server is unable to provide services to the customers.

"The changes are being made and the website will be fully operational within the next 24 hours," Sharma told PTI.

Anonymous has planned peaceful street demonstrations in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata, Pune, Kochi and other cities on June 9. The demands include removal of blocks on websites and for amendment of certain provisions in the IT Act 2008.
